Redwood County Jail Minnesota

The Redwood County Jail is connected to the Redwood County Law Enforcement Center, which houses the Redwood County Sherriff’s Department and the Redwood County Courthouse.  The jail is in the city of Redwood Falls, Minnesota.  The jail has a housing capacity of 21 adult inmates and holds both pre-trial detainees and post-conviction inmates sentenced within the county’s jurisdiction.  It is managed by the Redwood County Sheriff’s Department.  The current Jail Administrator is Deputy Inspector Jim Hildebrandt.

Redwood County was established February 6, 1862 and was named for the Redwood River.  The county is located in the southwest portion of the state of Minnesota, has a total of 882 square miles, and is comprised of mostly rural land devoted largely to growing corn and soybeans.  The 2010 census recorded the population of the county as 16,059 people.  The county seat is located in the city of Redwood Falls.

Redwood Falls is located along the Redwood River near its confluence with the Minnesota River in the northeast portion of Redwood County.  The city is located about 116 miles west (and slightly south) of Minneapolis, and about 128 miles northeast of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The city had a reported 2010 census population of 5,254 people.  The community is rich with frontier and Native American history, and is known as the ‘Scenic City,’ partly due to the Alexander Ramsey Park, the largest municipal park in the State of Minnesota.  It also hosts the annual Farmfest in August, which showcases the latest technological advancements in the farming industry.

The Redwood County jail offers Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and religious services to its inmates.  It is the inmate’s responsibility to sign up for and to attend these programs.

If you are concerned about an inmate’s health or mental status, call the Redwood County Jail’s main number (507-637-1313) and ask to speak with the Jailer.

Inmate Telephone Privileges:

Inmates cannot receive incoming phone calls.  Inmates have access to phones in their housing areas for outgoing phone calls between 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.  Phone calls must be collect calls or pre-paid phone calls (using a telephone card PIN).  Jail phone calls are monitored and may be recorded.  Any attempt to call transfer or conference call will result in the call being disconnected.  Telephone services are considered a privilege for the inmates, and may be suspended due to disciplinary actions or security concerns.

Friends and family of inmates can set up a collect call account or purchase prepaid phone cards for inmates by visiting the Reliance Telephone website or by calling Reliance’s Customer Service at 1-800-896-3201 Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Central time.  An account must be created and payment made before calls can be debited from either a telephone card or a collect call account.  Reliance accepts many forms of payment and transaction fees are charged for account deposits.  Minimum funding amounts may be required, depending on the account type you select.

Phone cards from Reliance are available in denominations of $10, $20, $50 and $100.  Once you have selected a card, created an account and deposited funds, you will be provided with a unique PIN (personal identification number) for the card, which you will then need to provide to the inmate.  It is highly recommended that you write down or print the PIN once it is displayed, as the vendor states that they cannot provide you with the PIN once you have concluded your transaction.  It is also highly recommended that you provide the PIN information to the inmate in a secure way to avoid the PIN number being misappropriated by another inmate.  The inmate will use the PIN when making calls from the jail’s telephones and call fees are automatically subtracted from the phone card balance.  Inmates can call any telephone number using a prepaid phone card.  Once the funds on a card have been depleted, a new telephone card must be purchased for the inmate; a new unique PIN number will be issued with each card.

Inmates can also purchase telephone cards through the Redwood County Jail commissary provided they have adequate funds in their Inmate Account.

By establishing a collect call account, the inmate is not required to keep track of a PIN number and call fees are automatically deducted from the account.  Only one phone number is attached to each collect call account, but multiple accounts can be linked together to make payment more convenient.  The receiving party still has to verbally accept the call from the inmate and only calls made to the phone number listed on the account are charged.

If you want to block calls from inmates of the Redwood County Jail, contact either Reliance Telephone at 1-800-896-3201 or the jail at 507-637-1313.

Texting Service

Reliance Telephone also offers a texting service for inmates.  An account must be established with Reliance and funds deposited for this service.  An iPod is rented for the inmate to send and receive text messages, at the cost of $4/month.  Texts are billed at the rate of $0.09 each.  Visit the Reliance Telephone website or call 1-800-896-3201 Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Central time to establish an account.

Inmate Mail:

Inmates may receive mail through the U.S. Postal Service and through private delivery services.  All personal mail is opened and checked for contraband prior to being delivered to the inmate. All outgoing mail may be inspected.

All mail should have the full name and address of the sender clearly written on the outside of the envelope.  Mail with the following items will generally NOT be delivered to inmates:

  1. Items containing nudity
  2. Polaroid pictures
  3. Items containing security issues and criminal conduct
  4. Items that have glitter, glue, or tape on them
  5. Items that contain tattooing instructions or designs
  6. Prohibited property and/or contraband
  7. Any other item not mentioned that poses a risk to the safety and security of the facility

Inmates may receive magazine and newspaper subscriptions, and paperback books if these are mailed directly to the inmate.  Books or magazines that contain nudity, sexual acts, gang-related material, or any other materials that may disrupt the safety or security of the jail are not allowed.

Inmates are allowed a maximum of five photos in their cell at any time.  Additional photos can be placed in their property locker.

Inmates may purchase envelopes and stamps through the inmate commissary service; indigent inmates may order these materials on a routine schedule, with costs being debited from the inmate’s account.

Mail can be sent to the following address and must include the inmate’s full name:

For questions or concerns regarding an Inmate’s Account call the jail at 507-637-1313, and ask to speak with the jail secretary.

Commissary items (such as snacks, hygiene products, etc.) can be ordered by inmates through the telephones in their housing units.  Commissary orders placed by midnight on Mondays are delivered on Thursdays.  Medical personnel might prohibit inmates from making certain purchases because of health concerns.

Inmates cannot release money from their Inmate Account to friends or family.  A check will be provided to inmates for the balance of the funds in their account at the time of their release or transfer to another facility.

Any bail or bond that has been assigned to a Redwood County Jail inmate will be listed in the inmate’s details on the In Custody List.

Family and friends of inmates can also deposit money for bail/bond payments into an inmate’s account through JailATM.com – refer to the Inmate Account section for details.  Payment of processing fees may also be required prior to the inmate being released.

You must have a valid identification card or driver's license when posting bail in person.  Contact the jail at 507-637-1313 for any questions you may have about bail or bond payments.
