Recent News for Aitkin Minnesota Police Department:

January 26, 2017 - The subject of person on foot security has been raised as of late through the pages of the Aitkin Independent Age and at the Aitkin County Toward Zero Deaths Coalition

Person on foot passings moved in 2016 with a preparatory figure of 60 fatalities contrasted and a last figure of 41 in 2015. This is the most noteworthy number of person on foot passings since 1991 (61) and a 50 percent expansion in fatalities in the previous five years (2012–2016). There have been nine passerby individual harm mishaps in the city of Aitkin since 2010, as indicated by Aitkin Police Chief Tim Catlin. There was one walker demise various years back. "It works both ways," said Catlin, who said his area of expertise has watched more walker infringement than driver infringement. Since the downtown flag light is not programmed, people on foot must push the walk catch and sit tight for the walk flag. "We as a whole need to back off," said Catlin, "and people on foot need to give careful consideration." Catlin said the state has been working with the city to enhance walker wellbeing, "however you can just set up such a large number of signs," before they get to be distinctly inadequate. Aitkin officers have invested more energy watching movement and talking with people on foot about utilization of the stoplight walk flag and the new green bolt turn light on the east side of the crossing point.
