The Rockdale County Jail holds both pre-trial detainees and post-conviction inmates sentenced in the Rockdale County Court System to a period of time of one year or less. When an inmate is sentenced to a year or more, they are admitted into the Georgia Prison or Federal Prison System, depending on their offense. Rockdale County also has a specific juvenile facility, the Gwinnett Regional Youth Detention Center.
The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) was founded in 1870. The mission of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is to reduce crime, safely house inmates, bring offenders to justice, and perform the mandated services of the Office of Sheriff with the highest level of safety, professionalism and integrity. The current Rockdale County Sheriff is Eric J Levett, who took office on January 1, 2013.
The RCSO strives to maintain quality of life among its inmate population, including: access to medical care, access to mental health care, food service, sanitation, visitation, recreation, and religious services. If you have a concern about the inmate’s quality of life, you can voice that concern by calling the detention center at 770-278-8200 and following the prompts to be connected to Medical Services.
If you have concerns that include any allegations of criminal activity or employee misconduct, contact the Administrative Services Bureau (ASB) of the RSCO. A Citizen Complaint Form can be filed in person, by email, by U.S. mail or online at http://rockdalesheriff.com/complaint-form/ to document your concerns. Anonymous complaints are accepted. Sergeant Chris Lee ([email protected]) manages internal affairs investigations.
Citizen complaints are either investigated by ASB Investigators directly or assigned to a Bureau Commander. It is the policy of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office to thoroughly investigate all complaints of alleged employee misconduct. The ASB Commander reports complaint findings directly to the Chief Deputy and/or the Sheriff at the conclusion of each investigation. The findings of the investigation will be provided to the complainant citizen at the conclusion of the investigation.
