Orange County Jail is located in the city of Santa Ana, California which has a population of 324,528 (as of 2016) residents. This prison has a capacity of 1813 inmates, which means this is the maximum amount of beds per facility. Orange County Jail began processing inmates once the original construction was completed and service started in 1968 but may have been expanded or renovated since that time, to accommodate the growing prison population. Prisoners are housed in separate areas depending on the crimes they committed, their current risk assessment, and their behavior. This facility is currently under the supervision of Captain Bill Baker and houses male and female offenders.
If you have a family or loved one that is currently incarcerated at Orange County Jail, the first thing you should do is contact the prison for information on the inmate. Based on the information you are provided, you would then contact either a criminal defense lawyer or a bail bond service. They will provide you with vital information which can be used to defend an individual and in a lot of cases get them released from detention while awaiting trial.
The prison programming available at each facility depends not only on the facility, but also on the inmate’s designation. Some programming that may be available include: parenting classes, substance abuse education, ESL, GED, and vocational education.

The population at the Orange County Jail includes four types of offenders: individuals who did not post bail and are awaiting court (pre-trial detainees); individuals who had court and have been sentenced and are awaiting transfer to a state or federal facility (post- conviction transfer detainees); individuals who have been sentenced and will serve their sentence at the jail facility (post-conviction detainees) and individuals who are currently incarcerated in another detention facility, but have been summoned to appear in an Orange County court.
The living conditions at the Orange County Jail varies, not only according to the facility where an inmate is incarcerated, but also according to the population to which the inmate is assigned. Inmates at “the farm” enjoy conditions that some describe as being similar to a summer camp, while inmates in the higher security population at Theo Lacy may live in conditions similar to a high-security prison.
Orange County Jail is not associated with any production, but inmates are responsible for providing in-jail services and inmates at some facilities may provide services, such as laundry service, for other facilities and other state agencies or facilities.
The Orange County Jail’s colorful history includes a number of escapes from its maximum security men’s facility. In 2008, Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona, resigned because he was facing federal corruption charges; he was convicted in 2009.
The most notorious inmate in the Orange County Jail system was probably Scott Dekraa, a mass shooter who killed a number of people in Seal Beach. He was not only infamous for his crime, but also because his conversations with a jailhouse informant were secretly recorded.
