Facts:

- Camp Gordon, as GCC was first known, was built in 1932 and was initially used to relieve overcrowding at the Wisconsin State Prison located in Waupun. Gordon began as a forestry camp, where inmates worked in the forest and adjacent tree nursery operated by the Wisconsin Conservation Department. The inmates produced much of their own food on the facility’s farm and gardens. In 1962, the center became part of the Wisconsin Correctional Center System, an "institution" now comprised of 14 adult, male correctional centers that is overseen by a single warden, whose office is centrally located in Madison.
