A pretrial detention center, the Washington County jail facilities are monitored by corrections officers, who work under the supervision of the Washington County Sheriff.  These officers specialize in corrections and must have 24 hours of continuing education each year in areas directly related to corrections including: self-defense, fire training, CPR, and jail training.  The jail is monitored from a control room with security cameras that are mounted inside and outside of the jail.  All doors are locked and unlocked from the control room, which prevents inmate escapes and allows control room officers to fully monitor and control who goes in and out of the jail.

Because the Washington County Jail is a pretrial detention facility, inmates from all security classifications may be found in the jail.  Intoxicated inmates are separated from the general population in a holding cell until they become sober.  In addition, inmates who exhibit behavioral problems or present a danger to other inmates are detained in lockdown cells, away from general population inmates.

Living conditions at the Washington County Jail are similar to living conditions in most other pretrial detention facilities.  Inmates are fed three meals a day and have access to both medical care and mental health counseling.  Most of the inmates are detained in one of eight separate housing areas or dorms.  Inmates in these dorms are able to walk around the dorm area from 5:30am to 11:30pm.   After hours, movements are restricted except to access the restrooms. Most of the 124 beds in the jail are full at all times.  Inmates who come into the facility while intoxicated are kept in a separate holding cell until they are sober.  There are also 12 cells designated as lockdown cells, which are used for inmates who are problem inmates or receiving disciplinary action.  Inmates have access to laundry facilities to wash and dry their clothes.

A pretrial detention facility, the Washington County Jail does not offer prison programming, but offenders who need medical attention or mental health assistance have access to those services.

The Washington County Jail is not linked to production.

The current Washington County Jail facility was built in 2004.

There are not any nationally known inmates at the Washington County Jail.
