Prarieland Detention Center in Alvarado

ICE is currently building a new Federal facility located in Alvarado Texas, a town of roughly 4,000 residents.  The new facility built for the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement will cost an estimated $42 million and will provide jobs for up to 100 individuals in the sorounding area.  The closest major city to this new detention facility will be Dallas which is about 40 miles north east if this location.  The facility will be managed by Emerald Correctional Management, which is a private company.  Prarieland Detention Center  is scheduled to open and begin processing inmates in November 2016.

This will also be one of the first facilities to have a seperate housing unit for transgender inmates.  Correctional officers assigned to this specific area will have specialized training so they will know how to respond to specific situations.
