  1. Jail should include the inmate’s full mailing address including: inmate name, inmate number, housing unit and cell if known, and then the jail mailing address.

  4. There should be nothing unused in the envelope that has an adhesive backing.  This means that you should not send the inmate any unused postage stamps, address labels, or stickers.  In addition, you should not send anything with adhesive on it that is not necessary for the letter to be mailed; so, do not include any type of sticker on the envelope or on the mail other than a postage stamp. Some jails may even require you to only send mail in postage-paid envelopes or on postcards to avoid even having stamps on the envelopes.  
  5. Unless you have permission from the jail, do not send writing supplies including: pens, pencils, markers, envelopes, blank paper, or greeting cards.
  6. Inmates cannot receive certain types of mail that could cause problems in the jail facility.  This prohibition usually includes: sexually explicit material even if it is not obscene or pornographic; nude or semi-nude photographs; materials that promote racism in any way; materials that reference gangs or gang-related material, including gang signs; materials that constitute an escape plan or could be used to make an escape plan.  Other prohibited materials include anything that could reasonably be believed to potentially cause violence.
  7. Inmates cannot receive contraband.  Contraband includes anything inmates are prohibited from having in jail.  This not only includes illegal items like drugs, but also medications, weapons, things that can be turned into weapons.  In addition, most jails prohibit people from receiving cash, checks, or credit cards. 
  8. Inmates may or may not be permitted to get photographs in the mail.  However, most of them cannot receive Polaroid pictures.  In addition, there may be limits on the number of photographs that an inmate can receive at one time or the total number of photographs that a person can possess. 
  9. While most jails allow inmates to receive books and magazines, they generally require them to be sent directly from the publisher or from an authorized book seller.  Do not send books or magazines in the mail to an inmate. 
  10. Mail cannot have any extra or unidentifiable substances on it, including bodily fluids, glitter, lipstick or perfume.
  11. Do not send writing utensils including: pens, pencils, or markers. 
  12. Inmates may be able to receive phone cards; contact the jail before sending phone cards to the jail. 
  13. If an inmate needs identification, you may be able to make arrangements to bring identification to the jail, but do not send the identification in the mail.

Jail Visitation

Pickaway County Jail has divided visitation into males and females.

Visitation for female inmates is Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon.  Wednesday night visitation is from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.  Saturday visitation is from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.

Visitation for male inmates is Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon.  Wednesday night visitation is from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.  Saturday visitation is from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

The jail does not list a dress code for visitation.  However, almost all jails require visitors to follow a modest dress code.  This means clothing that does not reveal excessive cleavage, midriffs, bare arms, or upper thighs.  Clothing should not be see-through, too-tight, or sexually suggestive.  Visitor clothing should also not be gang-related, be gang colors, or otherwise promote gang lifestyle.

Visitors are also prohibited from bringing many things with them into visitation.  Visitors are generally prohibited from bringing cell phones to visitation.

The number of visitors per visit may be limited by the jail.  The jail may also have age limits for visitations.  Contact the jail for information about the number of visitors who can visit, and the guidelines for visitation.

Visitors must follow jail rules while visiting inmates at the Pickaway County Jail.  Do not go to visitation if you are intoxicated; you can be barred from visitation and may not be permitted to visit in the future.  You may also be subject for arrest.    Your behavior should not be disruptive.  Cursing, fighting, or loud talking can result in ending visitation.  Children should be supervised.  If children are unable to attend visitation, they cannot be left unsupervised in the jail lobby.  Do not bring children who are not permitted to visit to the visitation.

Bail Information
