Richmond County - Regional Facility - Virginia
Northern Neck Regional Jail

Northern Neck Regional Jail, in Warsaw, Virginia is a regional jail system servicing Richmond County, Virginia; Westmoreland County, Virginia; Northumberland County, Virginia, and Gloucester County, Virginia, as well as the Town of Warsaw.  It was created in response to a rise in local jail populations in these areas in the 1980s, coupled with the realization that Richmond and Westmoreland counties did not have the funds to construct two separated jail facilities.  Instead, they decided to pool resources and construct a regional jail facility. Subsequently, other counties decided to join the regional jail facility.  In July, 1995, the jail began accepting inmates.  At the time, the jail had 42 staff members and a 198 inmate capacity.  In, 1996 the jail secured a federal contract to house prisoners, increasing its staff to 74 and its inmate capacity to 268.  In 2000, a third expansion brought the staff to 100, with an inmate capacity of 460.  The jail has multiple detention levels and different levels of supervision, including: dormitory, direct supervision, and podular remote areas.

Northern Neck Regional Jail has a comprehensive website, which offers detailed information about inmates, including: visitation, inmate property, inmate mail, inmate telephone privileges, inmate searches, how to bring clothing to inmates for court, pre-trial services, and victim notification information.
