Aberdeen Township NJ Police Jail began processing inmates once the original construction was completed and civil service started in 1977 but may have been expanded or renovated since that time, to accommodate the growing prison population. The jail and municipal buildings opened in November 8, 1977 when the residents of the residing town of Matawan, voted to create a community separate from Matawan Borough.  This facility is currently under the supervision of Chief John T. Powers  and houses male and female offenders.  Basically individuals that commit crimes in this town are housed in holding cells until they can appear for court.  Depending on the infraction most serious crime offenders are transferred to Monmouth County Jail located in Freehold, NJ.  The judge that resides over complaints in this town is the honorary Judge Michael Pugliese.
