It was built in two stages in 1985 and 1988, and currently houses: adult male and female inmates, pre-adjudicated youth, direct-filed youth, and trustee inmates. The adult and youth populations are kept separate from one another. Inmates at the Central County Jail have access to educational services, life skills, substance abuse programming, and faith-based programming. It is the largest facility in the Polk County Jail System. The current population includes adult male general population inmates, adult male Direct Supervision inmates, and adult male trustees. Inmates at the South Jail have access to family integrity training in addition to the services available at the Central County Jail facility. Polk County in Minnesota is a small county. In fact, it is does not have its own jail facility. Instead, Polk County inmates are held at the Tri-County Community Corrections Center, which services Norman, Polk, and Red Lake Counties. The Tri-County Community Corrections Center has two main facilities: the Northwest Regional Corrections Center, which houses adult offenders; and the Red River Valley Juvenile Center.
The Northwest Regional Corrections Center is supervised by Dave Casanova. It is a relatively small Class III facility that was designed to house up to 200 inmates. It is a direct supervision facility that can house inmates with a variety of needs, and even has a special management unit. The goal of a direct supervision facility is to actively manage inmate behavior before it can become problematic, increasing safety for inmates, staff, and visitors. The jail updates its jail roster on a daily basis. Visitation follows specific rules. Visiting Hours are Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Visits are 30 minutes in duration. Visits are limited to 2 adults or 1 adult and 2 small children; no visitor under 18 can visit unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
In addition to money, inmates can receive certain personal property including: socks, underwear, and prescription medication. Inmate deports can be made through kiosks located in the lobby, through money orders sent to inmates through the mail, and by depositing money online.
Polk County Jail, Iowa
