Pay BailAn inmate who is being detained prior to trial may be eligible for pre-trial release.  You may be required to post bail in order to secure the inmate’s release.  Bail bondsmen and criminal defense attorneys can be instrumental in helping an inmate secure pretrial release and financing that release.  A criminal defense attorney makes an argument in front of a judge about why a detainee should be eligible for pretrial release and can also argue in favor of a reasonable bond amount.  A bail bondsman takes a portion of the bail that is due and secures the bond by promising the court that the defendant will appear for trial and forfeiting the entire amount of the bail if the defendant fails to appear.  Generally, a bail bondsman will charge a percentage of the bail for this service, and that charge is non-refundable, regardless of the outcome of the charges against a defendant.
